A year ago the Hancock baseball team was in a similar position and came up one win short.

After beating Heuvelton 3-1 in the semis, they had their shot at redemption taking on Smithtown Christian in the Class D State Finals.

Smithtown scored two in the first but Hancock came right back.

However, the Knights would tack on a few more and Hancock again falls one win short.

Wildcasts lost 7-3 in the Class D title game.

"For these guys just to make the final four it meant a lot. I think a lot of them kinda had some unfinished business here and really wanted to take home our first state championship. But unfortunately, Smithtown Christian, you have to give them a lot of credit; they played cleaner than we did today and they deserved to win," said head coach Brandon Olbrys.
