Boys high school championships recap, 3/17/17

It's a big weekend for basketball in Binghamton. 

The New York State high school Boys championships kicked off this morning at the Arena and runs through Sunday.

Section IV has two chances of bringing home its first boys state championship in 8 years with Newfield and Moravia. 

Newfield battled it out against Harrisvile in the Boys Class D Semifinals Friday morning.

First quarter, Greg Moravec to Quintel Clements, who drives in, with the spin move, and hooks it in! 

Newfield leading 5-2.

Stephen LaBarge with the ball now, and drills the jumper! 12-8 Newfield

2nd quarter now, and Clements with the long toss to Patrick Banfield who is all alone for the basket.

Trojans up by 4.

Clements again with the ball, and not even three defenders can stop him from scoring! 

18-12 Newfield.

Clements just putting on a clinic, coming down the court, driving in hard, gets the bucket and draws the foul. 

Newfield up by 4.

Harrisville going down the other way, what a pass to Trenton Sullivan who puts one home. 

Newfield still leading 28-25

This one would stay close. 

After two overtimes, Newfield was able to punch its way to the finals with a 65-62 victory. 

Newfield will face off against Moriah at 5:15 Saturday night for the Class D championship.

Moving on over to Class C. 

Moravia taking on Stony Brook in the semis.

Third quarter, Jordan Crossgrove taking his sweet time, drives in hard, and gets the bucket.

38-22 Moravia.

Next Moravia possession, Parker Dickenson, great pass to Gabe Short who puts one away.

Fourth quarter now, and Stony Brook starting to rally, Dickenson, goes to throw and its picked off by Brandon Providence, who takes off, gets the basket, and the foul. 

What a play!

James Toney now sends it all the way over to Harry Zhu who drills the 3. 

Stony Brook cuts the lead to 10.

Moravia just up by 4 now,  shot clock winding down, Kaleb Stayon sets up Dickenson with the 3 right as the buzzer sounds! 49-42 Moravia.

A minute and a half to go, tight game, Crossgrove sends it in and Dickenson does the rest.

Moravia up 53-46.

Moravia would just hang on to win it 55-53 and is headed to the finals!
