The B-Mets drew first blood in the third inning off of Altoona starter Zack Dodson. Dustin Lawley led off with a double. With one out, Wilfredo Tovar tapped a single to center field that plated Lawley for the 1-0 advantage.
The lead was short-lived. After retiring the first six batters he faced, Robles stumbled in the game-breaking inning. He gave up a lead-off double to Willy Garcia. Jarek Cunningham then worked a walk. With one out, Gift Ngoepe smashed a three-run home run to straight away center field to put Altoona on top, 3-1.
The next batter, Allen Hanson tripled and scored on a double by Mel Rojas, Jr. Stetson Allie then launched the second long ball of the frame to left-center field to make the score 6-1. The final blow of the inning came when Keon Broxton hit a solo shot to left-center field to give the Curve a 7-1 lead. That drove Robles from the game in favor of T.J. Chism. He got the final out two batters later.
The Curve added two more runs in the fourth off Chism. Ngoepe worked a one out walk. With two gone, Rojas, Jr. moved Ngoepe to second on a single. Allie then walked to load the bases. Elias Diaz then singled in two runs to extend the Altoona lead to 9-1.
The B-Mets cut into the deficit in the sixth against Tyler Sample. Lawley launched a solo home run to left-center to make it a seven run game. It was his second round-tripper of the home stand.
Altoona got that run back in the seventh, though, against Cody Satterwhite. Broxton reached on an infield single with one out. Garcia and Cunningham hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Ngoepe singled to right field to score a run and make the Curve lead 10-2.
Binghamton tallied a final run in the seventh inning. Kyle Johnson and Darrell Cecilliani led off with two straight singles. Following a double play, Johnson was at third with two outs. Matt Reynolds then singled to plate Johnson and cut the deficit to 10-3.
That would be all for the B-Mets as Matt Benedict held them down for the final two innings to preserve the win.
Sample (3-2) allowed two runs on six hits over four innings in the win. Robles (1-2) was tagged for a career-high seven runs on six hits over 2-2/3 innings in the loss.
The B-Mets (18-16) play game two of three against the Altoona Curve on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. Binghamton sends RHP Greg Peavey to the opposite LHP Joely Rodriguez. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
