Tioga County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc. (TCCASA) announces its 1st annual “Letters of Love” contest to run from February 3 to February 28, 2014. The contest is part of the national “Kick Butts Day” of The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids®. The “Letters of Love” contest will encourage area youth to write letters to their loved ones about smoking and smoking cessation.
The contest is open to all Tioga County youth attending grades 4-9. Entry boxes for depositing letters will be placed in area schools. Everyone who participates in the contest will be recognized and invited to a recognition ceremony.
“We believe this contest will provide a voice for Tioga County youth to say how they feel about their loved one’s smoking and how it affects them,” says Executive Director Christie Speciale, of the enthusiasm that is spreading about the “Letters of Love” contest among Tioga County 4-9th Grade youth.
TCCASA is a 501c (3) nonprofit that for 25 years has had a relationship with the Tioga County community through service to the youth population. As the sole provider of prevention services licensed by New York State OASAS (Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services) in Tioga County, TCCASA serves youth of all ages and their families. We utilize evidence-based programming in delivering our services. In addition, we work with the community to provide appropriate interventions, referrals, and education.
