From Hillel Academy & Temple Israel:

Friends of the Jewish community are throwing a lavish adult party as a way to bring the community together, and to help raise money for rebuilding Hillel Academy and Temple Israel. The “Raise the Roof Dance Party” is open to the entire community, and is being held on Saturday evening, March 1st at 7pm at the JCC, 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. Cost is $52.00 a person, which includes music by Brotherhood, hors d’oeuvres and desserts by Chef Dave Stroka, cash bar, raffles and silent auction.

Reservations can be made one of three ways: 1) Online at RaiseTheRoofBinghamton.com, 2) by contacting Annette Wiesner, event chairperson at 607-624-0351 or 3) by stopping by the JCC office at 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. Checks should be made payable to “Hillel Academy.”

“Sometimes community spirit and support goes a long way,” say Annette Wiesner, chair of the event. In mid-December, a portion of the roof over Vestal’s Temple Israel’s social hall unexpectedly collapsed. This collapse was not only destructive to the Temple, but in turn also created tremendous devastation to Hillel Academy, a Jewish school educating 30 students, ranging from pre-kindergarten to grade five. Thankfully, there was no one in the building and the school when this happened.

“Although I am not Jewish, I have been to many services at Temple Israel,” says Cindy Rotella, one of the organizers. “It’s my neighborhood – it’s a place of worship and education for some of my dearest friends and their families.”

The proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to Hillel Academy & Temple Israel.

“When people need assistance, does it really matter that our traditions may be different? We should always be there for each other,” concludes Rotella. “We hope the community will come out in full force to support this fun and worthwhile event.”

Individuals, families and businesses are being sought to sponsor the evening at one of the levels listed below. Those interested are encouraged to visit www.raisetheroofbinghamton.org and donate via PayPal, or they can contact Wiesner at 607-624-0351.
