Dick's Sporting Goods Open qualifier held at Links at Hiawatha

APALACHIN, N.Y. - With a field packed with PGA legends making their way to En-Joie, there are still 4 spots up for grabs to make it into the Dick's Open tournament.

Those spots were handed out as the qualifying round took place at the Links at Hiawatha.

Early scores came in around even par and 1 under.

Tommy Tolles of North Carolina teed off in the 3rd group this morning and really lit it up on the links with a leading score of 6 under, at 66.

This is his 1st time playing Hiawatha and played a practice round earlier today.

It was a hot day and Tolles says the course was playing soft and wet.

He says the golfer-friendly conditions helped him keep the mistakes to a minimum.

"I was low in my group which is always a good thing. I shot 66. The conditions are very benign and the course is nice and soft. For most of us, this is only our first or second go around here. These conditions really help. If it was hard and fast, you'd get some funny bounces out there and it can be much more difficult. But, with the soft conditions, it's much more doable," said Tolles.

Tolles led the pack at 6 under, with 3 others finishing at 3 under.
