YWCA Stands Up Against Racism

- Members of the YWCA are taking a pledge to fight racism.

Today they took part in Stand Up Against Racism, which is a worldwide event launched by the Trenton YWCA in 2008.

The goal is to bring awareness and start community dialogue about the problem.

The event at the YWCA in downtown Binghamton featured a variety of speakers including poets, artists and lecturers.

"You know it's like tossing that pebble into that pond and it ripples out. If we don't speak up about racism it will continue. If I had a nickel for every time someone said to me eliminating racism Carole, haven't we done that already? And I say absolutely not. There's much work still to be done," said executive director Carole Coppens.
