Spring planting season is finally in full swing and one local garden center is planning specials for the upcoming holiday season.

W & W Nursery and Gardens in Apalachin boasts the largest inventory selection in the Southern Tier. It sells thousands of different perennials, along with annuals, trees, shrubs, decorative stones and bulk goods such as mulches.

Owner and President Ken Williams says there will be plenty of discounts this weekend, including one for veterans. And there will be live music and a special Creation Workshop on planting a raised vegetable garden.

"Everyone's had cabin fever. Winter's been so long and it's been hanging on. Sales have been good and strong the last few weeks. I think everyone's anxious, they want to get out, they want to garden. Now that the weather's starting to cooperate, it's time to garden," said Williams.

W&W sells raised garden beds made by Halfmoon Works, a small business that employs young adults with developmental disabilities.

The garden center is also providing landscaping for the new Conklin Veterans Memorial.

W & W is located on Marshland Road in Apalachin.
