Students at Vestal Middle School sewed pillowcases today to help boost spirits of children battling cancer. They will be donated to ConKerr Cancer, which is an organization that is dedicated to helping children cope with the disease.

Eighth-graders in Patricia Jackson's Family and Consumer Science class put their own creative flair into each piece. Jackson says her students are at a great age to learn how to give to others.

"Eighth grade and younger really enjoy the community service projects and I think that's when they really pick up that intrinsic feeling of loving to help other people," said Jackson.

Vestal students are sewing about 300 pillow cases. ConKerr Cancer will donate them to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
