Upton Indicted on First Degree Murder Charges

- The Florida man accused of intentionally striking and killing a state police officer along Interstate 81 in May has been indicted on first degree murder charges.

A Broome County Grand Jury indicted Almond Upton, 60, of Melrose, Florida on first degree murder as well as assault and criminal mischief charges on Wednesday.

According to police, on May 29th, Upton was driving recklessly on I-81 North in the Town of Chenango, intentionally side-swiping other vehicles.

He then, allegedly, swerved over to the shoulder to strike trooper Christopher Skinner, who was standing beside a vehicle he had pulled over for speeding.

Skinner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upton initially fled into nearby woods but was apprehended several hours later.
