UHS is bringing attention to the problem of hunger and the need for good nutrition by erecting a giant plate made out of cans.

As part of the Canstruction event going on at the Oakdale Mall, the UHS Stay Healthy Center built a 3 dimensional version of My Plate. My Plate demonstrates the portions of meats, grains, vegetables and fruits that make up a recommended diet.

Jenny English of UHS says proper nutrition is just as important for people who get their meals from food pantries.

"Hunger is a huge issue in our community and something that we definitely have a vested interest in and you know not only just helping people to get food but making healthy choices also," said English.

Canstruction is on display through Sunday after which the food will be donated to CHOW.

English runs the Stay Healthy Kids club. Children and parents can enroll in a free 12 week course which helps them learn about healthy eating. The next session starts in June.
