Talk is heating up about building a new Veterans Administration clinic in Binghamton.

The federal agency is considering two sites that would allow for the VA to expand its presence in greater Binghamton. The current clinic is at the Greater Binghamton Health Center on top of Robinson Street.

One of the proposals is to build a facility at the former Weis supermarket site on Main Street. The Weis closed last month.

The other option is to turn the former Sheltered Workshop building on Court Street in Binghamton into a new home for the VA.

The agency isn't expected to decide which option to go with until next year.

Once a new clinic that can serve more veterans with expanded services is built, its current location would close.

Both proposals would likely have a better parking situation for veterans. Currently, they have to walk a ways to get to the clinic if they drive themselves.
