Tioga State Bank is celebrating 150 years of local banking. Bank officials and local dignitaries held a ribbon cutting at TSB's headquarters in Spencer.

The bank's roots date back to the establishment of the First National Bank of Candor in 1864. 20 years later, the Fisher family started Farmers and Merchants Bank in Spencer. The two merged in 1961, taking the name Tioga State Bank, and has since grown to 11 branches in four counties, including four in Broome. Fifth generation President and CEO Bob Fisher says the key to their success is to have personalized and professional service.

"My family has lived in the local community for 8 generations. We realized early on that the success of a local business is directly tied to the success of the local community. We encourage all of our employees to be involved in the community and all of our employees live here and understand the importance on being local," said Fisher.

To mark the occasion, the bank donated $20,000 to local food banks. Tioga State Bank plans separate celebrations at each of its branches throughout the year. And it's working on details for a major concert for its customers.
