A company from North Carolina spent about a year looking at the issue. Community leaders were interviewed, in-depth analysis was done on area hotels and visitors were surveyed. The person who headed up the work says Tioga County has a lot of opportunity to draw people from a three hour radius.
"It's clear that Tioga County has an opportunity to grow tourism all 12 months off the year with a focus on Owego and the town square community along the river and building out from that. There's potential for everything from agri-tourism and historic heritage tourism to shopping, retail, dining, all of these things appeal," said president Berkeley Young.
According to the study, one of the keys that Tioga County needs to focus on is having more evening entertainment, which helps keep people overnight.
