BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - There's a new eatery in Binghamton that bills itself as a home away from home where you don't have to do the cooking.
The Hot Pot is opening Friday on Main Street in the building that years ago housed the Copper Cricket Cafe.
The restaurant will be buffet style with a rotating menu of home style dishes like baked chicken, ribs and macaroni and cheese.
Plus, soups, desserts and a salad bar.
Owner Tonya Powell says her family has been involved in local restaurants going back generations.
She hopes to serve as a role model for younger people of color.
"To let them know that they can aspire to anything that they want to aspire to. I hope that I can instill that in them. Whether you're a young woman or a young boy, don't let anyone stop your dreams," said Powell.
The Hot Pot will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Powell says she plans to hold special events, including an opportunity for local youth and Binghamton Police to share a dinner together.
