VESTAL, N.Y. - A local waste disposal company has been honored for helping our community clean up when flash flooding recently struck the area.
Taylor Garbage of Vestal was recognized by Broome County Executive Jason Garnar for providing roll-off dumpsters at no cost to a number of Vestal communities after flash flooding occurred in July.
The roll offs were placed in four locations and Taylor Garbage waived all of the tipping fees.
Affected areas included Tharp Street, Richards and Grand Avenues along with the Kintner Estates Trailer Park.
Taylor Garbage Co-Owner Patricia Ostrander said helping their neighbors was the right thing to do.
"We were raised on a farm in Whitney Point. It can be hard living paycheck-to-paycheck. When devastating events like this happen, we understand it's hard for people to pick up the pieces. We want them to stay in the community. We feel that if there's anything we can do to help, we want to be there to help them," said Ostrander
Taylor Garbage has provided similar relief during past floods.
The company has been in business in our area for nearly 40 years.
