SUNY Broome students, faculty, staff gather for 9/11 memorial service

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A memorial service was held Monday morning at SUNY Broome.

Dozens of students, faculty, and staff gathered near the flagpole outside of the Darwin Wales Center.

It featured Broome County Executive Jason Garnar along with a performance of "Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes by Rich Maloney.

President Kevin Drumm says many of the students who are attending SUNY Broome were only a few years old when the attacks occurred.

He says he's proud to see the first responders of tomorrow getting their careers started at SUNY Broome.

"It's encouraging to see so many young people here today that are willing to become the helpers and dedicate their lives to the well-being and safety of our fellow citizens. Our Criminal Justice and Emergency Services academic areas are 2 of the largest programs that we offer," said Drumm.

The event also featured members of the Broome County Sheriff's Office and the Office of Emergency Services.
