The Broome County Public Library is celebrating National Library Week with activities and story times.

Today, the focus was on children's book author Eric Carle.

SUNY Cortland seniors Kelsey Murray and Jessica Parsons read two Carle books to a group of kids, The Grouchy Ladybug and The Rooster Is Off To See The World.

Murray and Parsons organized the event as a service learning project as they study to become teachers.

Murray loves working with children. She chose some lesser known works by Carle.

"He's a well-known author among many kids and I just wanted to expand their horizons on Eric Carle. Because a lot of them only know the Very Hungry Caterpillar so I want to introduce other books by him," said Murray.

Following the reading, the kids made ladybug head bands.

Library Week continues tomorrow with more story times and an all ages Poetry Reading in the evening.
