A kick-off party was held late Wednesday afternoon with volunteers gathering to talk about their strategy over the next two months.
Starzak said she's looking for more people to get involved with her effort to unseat Republican State Senator Tom Libous. She also said if elected she'll focus on economic recovery and making sure that schools are properly funded by the state.
"What the really important thing is right now is making sure that they have a senator that they trust, who will work with them, who has the needs of the community above his or her own needs and that's what I intend to do and bring," she said.

A spokesman for State Senator Libous said Libous has always put the community first, including by fighting for the Children's Unit at the Greater Binghamton Health Center, jobs and services at the Broome Developmental Center, and by investing in Binghamton University.
He said Libous' record speaks for itself.
