BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - State Senator Fred Akshar says he's not interested in being the GOP running mate in this year's race for New York Governor.
Akshar sent out a media release Monday indicating that he is honored to have been considered as a Lieutenant Governor candidate by Republican gubernatorial front-runner Marc Molinaro.
Molinaro is currently the Dutchess County Executive in the Hudson Valley.
Akshar, who was first elected in 2015 in a special election to replace longtime Senator Tom Libous, says he can do the most good for the people of his district by continuing to represent them in a Republican Senate majority.
If he were to run for Lieutenant Gov, he would not be able to also run for his Senate seat.
My thanks to @marcmolinaro and his team for the consideration. I stand ready to do everything in my power to ensure Marc is successful. The people of this great state deserve a Governor who is trustworthy and puts people before politics @marcmolinaro will do just that. https://t.co/qdBgzCuRWG— Senator Fred Akshar (@fredakshar) May 14, 2018
