Local runners will once again have the chance to honor a friend or loved one.

Registration for the 4th annual I Run For Half Marathon in September has now opened.

The race began as a way for organizers Steve and Anne Seepersaud to honor Anne's sister who was battling cancer.

And while the race continues to raise money for cancer research at Cornell University, participants are encouraged to choose their own cause that they're running for.

The event has since grown to include a 5K and a full marathon.

"There's someone or something that inspires us all. So, it could be a loved one who has cancer or who has battled cancer or maybe has passed away. Or somebody has been there and has been a difference maker for us at some point in our lives when we really needed it.  e all run for something. The I Run For Half Marathon was really born out of that mindset," said Seepersaud.

The races take place on Sunday September 10th starting at 10 a.m. and starting and ending at the Town of Maine Park.

Registration is open now and the fee for the half marathon goes up on May 1st.
