Five people are currently receiving precautionary treatment for rabies after two separate incidents with a fox in Endicott over the weekend.

Three family members were attacked by a fox in the backyard of their home on Robble Avenue on Saturday evening.

The next day, a fox attacked an Endicott police officer who then shot the animal.

The fox was tested positive for rabies.

Christopher Coddington of the Broome County Health Department says there's no way to know if the same fox caused both attacks.

The Department is urging residents to report any contact with a fox to 778-2847 and to make sure their pets have been vaccinated.
