Police: Man forced his way into Sweeney's Market, threatened owner

OWEGO, N.Y. - Police have arrested an Apalachin man after they say he burglarized a local store and threatened the owner.

New York State Police arrested Michael Kelly Jr., 44, around 7:40 a.m. on Sunday.

Police say the owner of Sweeney's Market, located on Route 434 in the Town of Owego, heard Kelly yelling and banging on the windows of the store.

When the owner unlocked the door and attempted to go outside, Kelly forced his way into the store.

Police say this caused the door lock to break.

Once inside, they say Kelly continued to yell and threaten the owner as he smashed beer bottles on the floor.

Eventually, Kelly followed the owner outside and waited for police to arrive.

Police arrested Kelly without any further problems, and he was charged with the felony of burglary 3rd degree.

He is currently being held in the Tioga County Jail without bail.
