Police: Man, 92, dies in two car head-on crash in Town of Unadilla

SIDNEY, N.Y. - UPDATE: We have updated this story with new information, as the original information provided to us from New York State Police was incorrect.

Police are investigating after a fatal two-car crash in the Town of Sidney on Monday.

New York State Police say the crash happened around 11:52 a.m. on State Route 7.

An investigation determined that Joseph Norton, 92, of Sidney, was driving his car eastbound when he entered a sharp curve and then drifted into the westbound lane.

Police say he struck a dump truck traveling in the westbound lane head-on.

State Police say Norton was pronounced dead at the scene.

They say the driver of the dump truck, Jeffrey Haynes, 38, of Sidney, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and is in critical condition, while his passenger, Jackie Ryan, 40, of Mt. Upton, is in stable condition.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted, and that the investigation is ongoing.
