A longtime deli in Johnson City that was damaged by fire over the winter will not reopen.

Pete Zalaffi, who is the owner of PMP Delicatessen on Harry L. Drive, tells NewsChannel 34 that he will not be reopening as he had originally planned.

The deli incurred significant water damage during a cooking fire in the upstairs apartment back in January.

Zalaffi originally vowed to reopen the market he has owned for roughly 40 years.

PMP was known for its selection of European meats and imported beer.

And for Zalaffi's collection of decades worth of Binghamton hockey memorabilia, much of which was not damaged in the fire.

Zalaffi says his declining health is forcing him not to rebuild.

He says the building and the business are for sale.
