Otters Learn to Swim at Ross Park Zoo

- The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park's three otter pups are beginning to explore their outdoor exhibit.

Arya, Edgar, and Ottawa are 3-months-old.

Since otters are not born with swimming instincts, they have to learn techniques from their mother.

Everyday at the zoo, visitors can see the otters have lunch and learn more about them at 1 o'clock.

Steve Contento is the zoo's executive director.

"Arya, Edgar, and Ottawa are getting their swimming legs. They're following mom's earnest instructions and they're doing great under water. They're really swimming strong and we have high hopes that this is going to be a very active exhibit throughout the summer as they get more accustomed to the water," said Contento.

The zoo is open everyday from 10 until 5.

The otter pups are usually outdoors from 10 until 1.
