Old World Deli holds ribbon cutting to celebrate new ownership

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A longtime eatery in downtown Binghamton has new ownership.

The Old World Deli, a fixture on Court Street since 1974, held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate.

Conklin native Jordan Jicha took ownership the first of the year.

The Old World Deli is known for its breakfasts, sandwiches, and for serving a different hot meal for each day of the week.

Jicha says he's added a few items to the menu while maintaining the deli's high quality.

The major change has been an expansion of hours, including weekends and late night, which has also lead to a doubling of the staff.

Jicha, who previously worked for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, says Old World is also getting more involved in the community by supporting local charities.

"People love making that personal connection.  The owner is there every day.  I'm here every day, I'm here every morning.  I get to greet everyone who comes in, I'm here during lunch.  And I think being able to have a face like that, just not some owner who sits in an office and people go, 'I wonder who owns this place," said Jicha.

The Old World Deli has launched a Create-A-Sandwich contest.

Entrants can suggest a flavor combination and special name in the deli or online at BingOWD.com.

Four  winners will be selected and have their sandwiches offered at Old World.

Then, whichever of the four that sells the best, that person will receive a free foot-long sub per week for a year.
