NYSP Troop C announces new commander

SIDNEY, N.Y. - New York State Police Troop C has a new commander.

Captain Bill McEvoy was promoted to Major and Commander of Troop C headquartered in Sidney.

Major McEvoy began his career in 1984 with Troop C as a Trooper.

He's worked as an Investigator for New York City's Drug Enforcement Task Force and more recently has worked in the Professional Standards Unit, Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, and has also served as Zone Commander for Oneonta and Binghamton.

McEvoy says he never thought he'd be the man in charge.

"It's an honor. It's something that I never thought would happen. The men and women of the New York State Police force are great to work with. It's a phenomenal organization. I never imagined that I would be the commander of Troop C," said McEvoy.

People can meet Major McEvoy this Saturday, as the State Police celebrate their centennial with an Open House at the Troop C Headquarters.

The free, family-friendly event will include K-9 and rescue helicopter demonstrations along with a display of patrol cars from throughout the years.

Off-site parking is available on Delaware Avenue and Union Street in Sidney, and a shuttle will bring people to the event.
