Novo to take final bow with Binghamton Philharmonic

Music Director Jose-Luis Novo has led the orchestra for the past 13 years

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Philharmonic Music Director Jose-Luis Novo will be taking his final bow in Binghamton this weekend.

Novo's final concert conducting the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra will be Saturday evening at the Forum.

He has led the orchestra for the past 13 years and is stepping down to concentrate his efforts on his other conducting position at the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Novo will also be able to spend more time with his 19 month-old son.

Saturday's program includes Beethoven's 9th Symphony, which is famous for its "Ode To Joy" final movement, as well as "Song of the Fates" by Brahms and "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage" by Beethoven.

Novo says he chose the repertoire for its symbolism.

"The prosperous voyage. I like doing things in a way that is meaningful. I thought that, if this is going to be my last concert with the Binghamton Philharmonic, I want it to be really meaningful," he said.

The Philharmonc will be joined on the Forum stage by the Binghamton University Choir.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m,

Tickets are close to selling out.
