From now until 7 p.m. tonight, we're hosting 'NewsChannel 34 for Texas', a 12 hour on-air fundraising marathon to benefit Red Cross relief efforts.
Nexstar media group has brought together local resources and personnel at all of its 170 owned or affiliated local television stations in 100 markets across the United States.
Nexstar for Texas has already generated in excess of $2.5 million in donations through labor day.
The Red Cross is using the funds they collect to provide shelter, food, comfort, and emergency support.
To help victims affected by Hurricane Harvey, 91 cents of every dollar goes to humanitarian efforts, including funds for 90 shelters in Texas.
So far, over 906,000 meals and snacks have been served, with over 26,000 relief items being distributed.
They include diapers, toiletries, and hygiene items.
In terms of emotional support, people can contact more than 30,000 health care professionals that also provide mental health services.
Donations also fund transportation and equipment for workers, with over 3,100 Red Cross Volunteers being deployed, with 400 more on the way.
