New York State Voters In Support of Legal Marijuana

Binghamton (WBGH/NBC) - In a poll released today that was conducted by Quinnipiac University, 88 percent of voters were in support of legalizing medical marijuana in New York State. 57 percent of the voters were in support of legalizing marijuana for recreational use.

This data is consistent with trends across the country, as Colorado and Washington recently legalized marijuana for both medical and recreational use. Federal law maintains the drug as a Schedule 1 illegal substance, but the Justice Department is not challenging states provided they abide by eight outlined enforcement priorities. These include trafficking to other states and sale to people under the age of 21.
