New York promotes industrial hemp at Southern Tier summit

ITHACA, N.Y. - After granting four higher education institutions permits for pilot programs to grow hemp last year, New York State is issuing another six, this time to private institutions.

NewsChannel 34's Emily Burkhard attended an industrial hemp summit held Tuesday at Cornell University.

Cornell University received an additional $400,000 from the state to continue its research on which strains of hemp are most resistant to disease, and what soil conditions are most conducive to plant growth.
