A new street festival featuring music, basketball and carnival rides is coming to downtown Binghamton next month.

The three day Empire Festival 2014 is being organized by WJOB-FM, and is a fundraiser for the Broome County Urban League.

Portions of Washington and Hawley Streets will be closed Friday, September 5 through Sunday, September 7.

A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place on Washington Street near the Veterans Memorial Arena. It will have three divisions for adults and those under 18.

There will also be carnival rides trucked in by Ontario Amusements.

"We really want to make this place a wonderful place to live and raise kids. And we really want to give kids, especially in the Summer, something active to do where they can learn but also have a good time and be engaged. So, we're hoping we can essentially make this a festival town in the Summertime. So there's always something for youth and especially families to do," said Jen Lesko, Urban League CEO.

As for music, there will be an outdoor stage featuring local DJs.
