The bank has donated over $16,000 to sponsor Youth Good Samaritan Awards at Red Cross Real Heroes breakfast events in four Upstate New York regions, including the Southern Tier.
Each year, Real Heroes honors people who have shown courage, dedication, and unselfish character through acts of heroism in a variety of categories including blood donors, first responders and adult good samaritans.
Red Cross Regional Coordinator Shelley Bierwiler says the youth good samaritans are particularly inspiring.
"They really don't seem to get frazzled like the adults who are often wondering, 'What do we do next?' They just see something and act on it. I love this award because it's just these kids acting naturally, automatically. They see a situation and they come out and respond," said Bierwiler.
Last year's award went to Binghamton 7th grader Demetrius Colvin who rescued his 2yyear-old sister and 8-year-old cousin from a burning home.
This year's breakfast takes place on May 8th at the Holiday Inn Arena in Binghamton.
