Murray's Auto Repair in Binghamton closing down after 60+ years

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A Binghamton auto repair shop that's been serving the community for over 60 years is closing down.

Murray's Auto Service located at the Corner of South Washington Street and Conklin Avenue is closing after Wednesday's shift.

in October 1956, Donald Murray opened the mechanic repair shop at the corner Henry and Chenango Streets before moving to its current location 10 years later.

It's now owned by Donald's son Michael, who has been working at the shop since he was 7.

He was originally responsible for filling the coke machine and cleaning up the building.

Customers and car dealers stopped by to wish Michael a happy retirement.

He says now is the time to call it quits.

"It's time. I'm 67 and although my mind says one thing, my body is saying another. I want some time for myself," he said.

Murray says he can't pick out a specific vehicle or memorable moment, but says his passion has always been repairing classic cars.

He says he can't thank the community enough for all of its support.

Murray says he will now work on over 20 cars that he has sitting at home.
