Man accused of April Binghamton murder rejects plea deal

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A Binghamton man accused of killing another man as part of a gang-related shooting has rejected a plea deal.

21-year old Jabari Ashe has turned down an offer to plead down to manslaughter charges.

Ashe is accused of shooting and killing 26-year old Tyquan Gumbs of Binghamton at 10 Fayette Street back in April.

At the time, police believed the shooting was gang-related.

Another deadly shooting took place a week prior at a former after-hours club on Orton Avenue.

Ashe would've faced 20 years in prison if he took the deal, and will now be tried on 2nd degree murder charges, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Pre-trial hearings are scheduled for the end of January.
