MacArthur Intermediate is celebrating National Poetry Month. The annual school wide poetry recitation was held today at MacArthur in Hillcrest.

Students in third, fourth, and fifth grade recited poems by their favorite authors, such as Shel Silverstein or Kenn Nesbitt, for their teachers, parents and classmates.

The students say they love the competition and many of them brought props to go along with their poems.

"This is the third year in a row that I've made it to the school wide poetry recitation and last year I made it to the district one, so I'm really excited," said Max Rizzuto.

Colleen Salisbury says, "Sometimes it makes me a little nervous, and what helps me is, I just concentrate and focus on my poem," said Colleen Salisbury.

Two winners from the school wide competition will advance to The Annual Countrywide Poetry Recitation. It will be held at the Helen Foley Theater at Binghamton High School on Saturday April 26th at 2 p.m.
