On a rainy day like this, we have good news to report about gauges that help detect the threat of flooding.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Richard Hanna have announced that long-term funding has been secured for numerous stream gauges in our area. They include along the Susquehanna River in Binghamton, Owego, Windsor, Bainbridge and Unadilla.

Funding for the device in Owego Creek has also been secured.

Originally, they were slated to be shutdown on October 1st of this year.

However, the United States Geological Survey has agreed to put them in its core network of gauges that receive regular funding.
