Local runners prepare for Herald of Victory Marathon

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Some local runners will be spending their Memorial Day weekend racing a marathon throughout our area.

The Herald of Victory Marathon will be held on Sunday.

The 26.2 mile long race starts at NYSEG Stadium and concludes at the domed court house on Court Street.

It'll take runners through Binghamton's Southside to Binghamton University and participants will go from Vestal to Johnson City by running on Route 201 North, which will be closed to motorists during the race.

A new addition this year is a live music festival that will feature local bands located along the race course.

"Come out and support your favorite band or discover a new band. It's really fun to cheer on the runners along the route, and it'll be extra fun with live music," said Voodoo Highway Band Member Dana Stewart.

The marathon offers a special opportunity for runners who don't feel ready to tackle the whole 26.2 miles.

Groups of 3 can race relay style and split the course between them.

The marathon begins Sunday at 8 a.m.
