Local organizations participate in World Wish Day

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The power of granting someone their wish is being celebrated around the world Friday.

Friday is recognized as World Wish Day and Security Mutual Life in Binghamton held a news conference to discuss the impact made by the Make A Wish organization.

Local Boy Scouts donated $1,000 to the organization on behalf of Security Mutual.

Participating Dunkin Donuts will also be giving away star-shaped doughnuts with blue frosting when anyone donates at least a dollar to Make A Wish of Central New York.

18-year old Kashawn Stroman of Binghamton was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2012.

He was granted his wish of going to Hawaii.

"I went to a luau, which was different, but awesome. Unfortunately a day or two after I returned from Hawaii, I had surgery again, so the trip was a blur. When I look at pictures, I noticed that I was happy when I was there.  It made me forget about everything I was going through," he said.

The Dunkin fundraising campaign has yielded over $150,000 over the past four years.

The special doughnuts will be available Friday through May 7th.
