Local general contractor celebrates 50 years

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A major general contractor, responsible for a number of well-known local buildings, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

William H Lane Incorporated hosted a reception recently at its headquarters on Court Street in Binghamton.

CEO Bill Lane founded the company in 1967 after having worked 11 years at another local firm.

His breakthrough project came the following year when the company was hired to build the 241 room Treadway Inn in downtown Binghamton which is now the Holiday Inn.

Since then, William H Lane has grown to employ 250 workers and has completed jobs from New England to Florida.

Bill Lane credits God and his loyal and talented workforce for his success.

He says many of his employees have been with him for decades and the company has a number of second generation workers.

"I'm 88 years-old. I've been blessed with good health. I've never had any serious health problems only a few injuries from playing softball that laid me up for a few months. And I've been blessed with a wonderful wife. We just celebrated 65 years," said Lane.

Lane says he's particularly proud of the work his firm has done for Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton University, Good Shepherd Fairview Home and the former Giant Markets.

His son Mark is now the President and oversees most of the day-to-day operations.
