ENDWELL, N.Y. - A local dental group is launching a new charitable fundraiser addressing an often unmet need in the community.
"Smiles for Santa" is a new promotion from Progressive Dental.
It's collecting personal hygiene and clothing items for needy kids including soap, shampoo, and deodorant, and socks, hats, and mittens.
Administrative Office Coordinator Maureen Srnka says Progressive wanted to go beyond the traditional toy and food drives.
"It definitely feels great. I've worked for Progressive Dental for a long time. We've always given back to the community in different ways. It's just a warm, fuzzy feeling that you have when you're able to help somebody else in need," said Srnka.
Progressive plans to add dental items like toothpaste and toothbrushes.
People can drop their donations off at any of the five Progressive locations in Endwell, Binghamton, Kirkwood, Norwich, and Montrose.
The items will then be given to the five corresponding school districts, Maine-Endwell, Binghamton, Windsor, Norwich, and Montrose.
The Smiles for Santa drive will last through the end of the month.
