The main event this weekend is of course the Baseball Hall of Fame, but how else can baseball fans show off their memories without a souvenir to commemorate the weekend. That's where the local businesses step up the plate.
"It's always the biggest time off the year. Whether it's a big induction or not a big induction it doesn't matter it's always the biggest weekend of the year. You get to see people that have been coming up for 20 or 30 years, people that are intense baseball fans that are here to enjoy themselves. We look forward to it every year," says Pete Henrici, Baseball Nostalgia.
Henrici's business focuses on the history of the game. Each business is trying to appeal to different types of people. Extra Innings made special shirts just for this 75th anniversary year.
"We designed the road trip shirts because we realized that everyone was coming from far away. So they're by far our best sellers. What we did is take the Route 66 sign and we added 'road trip' along with 'Cooperstown Home of Baseball' and of course the 'Established 1939' and the player hitting the homerun. You have to have that," says Sasha Gagarin, Extra Innings.
But not all of these businesses along Main Street have been around for years. Some are popping up on Main Street to cash in on these baseball bucks.
"A lot of people coming to my table and buying my books…that's what I'm looking forward to," says Rich Wolf, author.
Wolfe is a bestselling sports author. He says Cooperstown during the Hall of Fame induction weekend provides a market like no other.
"One of the advantages of Cooperstown if you're a baseball fan is no matter who you talk to they're another baseball fan, except the wives and so they're out shopping and that's fine too," Wolfe says.
So whether or not you're shopping until you drop or you're just here for the memories the Cooperstown businesses are ready for an induction weekend that will be one for the books.
All of Main Street will be closed down during induction weekend so shops and merchants can set up along the sidewalk so there will be no shortage of memorabilia.
