An Endwell man and former deputy mayor has announced his intention to run for the Broome County Legislature.

Democrat Joe Garbarino Jr. is seeking the 8th district seat.

Garbarino has been a city manager in Tennessee, was the second in command under former Binghamton Mayor Juanita Crabb and has been in public accounting for more than 20 years.

Garbarino says his experience in the public and private sectors will help him be effective when dealing with the key issues of taxation, job creation and economic development.

"I also bring a bi-partisan approach for the betterment of the residents of my district. I want to work with both parties and work through the politics in order to get the job done for the people who have elected me in office," said Garbarino.

The 8th district seat is currently held by Republican Legislator George Phillips, who was appointed to the position when John Black took a judgeship position.

Phillips has not formerly announced whether he plans to run for a full term.
