The Jewish Community Center in Vestal in honoring the contributions of local Holocaust survivors with the production of an iconic play.

The JCC is staging a dramatic reading of The Diary of Anne Frank on Sunday and Monday.

Monday is Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Prior to each performance, there will be a candlelight vigil for Jews who survived the Holocaust and later emigrated to our area.

Descendants of the 6 survivors, who have since died, will read their names while their images are projected on a screen.

Stage Director Kate Murray says its vital that this history not be forgotten.

"We want everyone to remember that these horrors happened. But there were survivors. And many of them came and made our community a thriving, wonderful place to live," said Murray.

11 local actors will participate in the staged reading.

Showtimes are Sunday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and are available at the door.
