The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation will host a 5K walk at Highland Park in Endwell this fall to help raise money for research.

JDRF is the leading global organization when it comes to funding type 1 diabetes research. Eighty percent of the money JDRF raises goes directly towards it. JDRF's Central New York Chapter raises about $350,000 each year.

Liz Krisanda, the Executive Director of the Central New York Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, says, "Currently, we have 530-million dollars in play in research. We're nearing human clinical trials for the artificial pancreas and smart insulin. So, we're getting very close to being able, if not to completely cure T1D to make it a very negligible impact on peoples' lives."

Both teams and individuals can register. The 5K will be on September 21st at 9:00 am.
