It's hard to believe that the big event we enjoy today actually had very humble beginnings.

What we now know as Spiedie Fest actually began in 1983 as a spiedie cooking contest. It was spearheaded by two men, Paul VanSavage and Rob Salamida.

And, now it has grown to be one of Binghamton's premier events and a major tourist draw.

NewsChannel 34's Jim Ehmke talks with the founders of Spiedie Fest about how the event got so big.

This year's spiedie cooking contest will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. near the NewsChannel 34 tent in the north field.
