BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame is announcing its 2018 induction class.
A news conference was held Thursday afternoon at the DoubleTree Hotel to announce the class and details for the 2018 Hall of Fame dinner.
Inductees include Team USA Olympic Bobsledding team members Randy Will and Chris Coleman; Union-Endicott Wrestling team founder and coach, the late Frank "Sarge" Sorochinsky; along with Binghamton Devils Vice President of Operations Tom Mitchell; and Dick's Sporting Goods Chairman and CEO Ed Stack.
Anthony Quagliata is the Hall of Fame Founder and also operates AJQ Sports Management.
He says the community is proud of its iconic sports stars.
"Young people especially may not know what these great people have done. We're trying to showcase it, remind them of the past and the great heritage we have here for sports. The community has really taken to it," said Quagliata.
This year's guest speaker will be NBA Hall of Famer and former New York Knicks player Earl "The Pearl" Monroe.
The Sports Hall of Fame is also looking for a permanent home, but people can check out the past honorees' plaques at the Oakdale Mall.
New this year is a $1,000 scholarship for our area's top male and female student athlete.
