Soprano Christine Goerke sings the title role in Richard Strauss's Ariadne in Naxos.
It's an opera within an opera featuring both light-hearted comedy and heroic grand opera as two different performing troupes compete for the attention of a wealthy patron.
Goerke, who was a member of the Young Artists Program at Glimmerglass in the early 90's, is the festival's Artist in Residence, working directly with this year's crop of young singers.
"I was learning everything and I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and excited about this business. It's now 21 years later, not so bright-eyed, I have two kids under 8 so I'm not so bright-eyed. And certainly not bushy tailed. But, I still love this as much as I did then. And the opportunity to share that again and to get that feeling off of all of these amazing young artists, it's really a gift to me," said Goerke.
Ariadne runs through August 23.
Goerke will give her own concert featuring some of the arias she's best known for on Friday, August 15 at 3 p.m.
