A railroad overpass in Binghamton that's a common site for truck crashes is finally receiving more clearance.

Work is underway to lower Front St. as it passes beneath the Norfolk Southern Railway near Clinton St.

The bridge with a posted 11 foot, 11 inch height has been the scene of numerous accidents over the years as too-tall tractor trailers get wedged underneath.

The $3 million project is being funded by a federal grant.

Currently, the section of Front St. near the County Health Department is closed and a detour is in place.

The project is expected to be completed in November.
